Film Screenings at In The City in association with Sensoria Festival

In association with the Sensoria Festival of Music & Film, four new music-related movies will receive showings at this year’s In The City, including the long awaited Creation Records documentary, ‘Upside Down – The Creation Records Story’, which will get an exclusive screening for delegates on Wednesday 13th October 2010 at The Place Hotel, Manchester ahead of its official premiere at The London Film Festival later in the month.

Prior to  the screening Danny O’Connor, the director of ‘Upside Down – The Creation Records Story’, will take part in a Q&A session with  Mark Gardener - the lead singer of Creation band Ride - and acclaimed journalist John Robb, who has written extensively on the label. The evening will also begin with a drinks reception hosted by Vision & Media.

Also being screened on Wednesday 13th October at The Nexus Art Cafe, Manchester is ‘Mogwai Burning’ a stunning, raw performance film stylishly shot in monochrome that captures Scottish band
Mogwai playing an incandescent show in front of a mesmerised audience. Expect a wall of Mogwai  sound with immersive visuals.

On Thursday 14th October the Nexus Art Cafe also hosts a showing of ‘The Beat Is the Law’, Eve Wood’s end-of-the-century documentary about  the British music scene through the eyes of Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley and other Sheffield natives. A journey through Thatcher’s politically charged 80’s that ends up at the epicentre of Britpop.

Finally, on Friday 15th October  Manchester venue The Band on the Wall, will be screening ‘Separado!’, a documentary  that follows Super Furry Animals frontman  Gruff Rhys on a quest to find his descendants in Patagonia. His long lost relatives emigrated in the 19th century as part of a Welsh diaspora to Latin America.  Rhys provides an entertaining guide as he also looks for the Welsh-Argentinean singer René Griffiths, briefly a star of Welsh TV when Rhys was a teenager.

Upside Down is for In The City delegates only but all other films can be seen with a festival wristband. Tickes available here.
